Born 29.01.1923 at Nant-y-moel, Glamorgan, UK​, son of Spencer and Sarah Moses​.

Educated at Wyndham Infants and Junior School​ and educated at Nant-y-moel Senior School​. Initially employed by the local colliery, at aged 16 he joined the Merchant Navy​ and aged 17 years old, he joined the Royal Marines. After Commando training he joined No 41 RM Commando where he became ‘batman’ to Capt. Peter Haydon DSO RM.

 

Byron was killed in action on 5th November 1944. During the attack on the very strategic coastal gun battery coded W18, Byron’s troop commander (Capt Haydon) was shot and wounded in the leg by a sniper. Byron ran forward to try and get his officer into cover, but the sniper killed him, and then killed the wounded officer.
