Lt John Priestley was Platoon Commander of 9 Platoon, G Company 8th Bn RIfle Brigade. 9th RIfle Brigade were motorised infantry (probably conveyed in Bren Gun Carriers) supporting the 23rd Hussars.
He was wounded in action during fierce fighting on 5th August and succumbed to his wounds the following day.
