Son of Harry Reid Maitland and Helen Maitland. Born in 1918 in Methlick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Husband of Mary Lindsay Maitland, of Aberdeen. M.B., Ch.B. (Aberdeen).

 

Major Robert Reid Maitland served with the Royal Army Medical Corps attached 6th Airborne Divisional HQ, and took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy on 5-6 June 1944. Major Maitland died of wounds sustained whilst treating a casualty, on 7 June 1944, aged 25 years old. He is now buried at Ranville Churchyard, near the War Cemetery, in Normandy.
